- Crochet Hook – Size 3.50mm
- Wool/Cotton Yarn 8ply in Hippo Colour of your choosing, Black & White
- Hobby Fill
- Tapestry Needle
- Scissors
Hippo Head
Starting with Hook Size 3.50mm
Starting with Hook Size 3.50mm
Create a Slip Knot, leaving a Tail of Yarn for weaving in, Chain 2
Round 1 – Working into the 2nd Chain from the hook, 6 SC (6SC)
Round 2 – 2SC into every stitch around (12SC)
Round 3 – 1 SC into the next stitch 2 SC into the next stitch, repeat around (18ST)
Round 4 – 1 SC into the next 2 stitches, 2 SC into the next stitch, repeat around (24ST)
Round 5 – 1 SC into the next 3 stitches, 2 SC into the next stitch, repeat around (30ST)
Round 6 – 1 SC into the next 4 stitches, 2 SC into the next stitch, repeat around (36ST)
Round 7 – 1 SC into the next 5 stitches, 2 SC into the next stitch, repeat around (42ST)
Round 8 – 12 (5 rounds in total) – 1 SC into every stitch around (42)
At this point I take the tail of yarn from the start, weave it in and trim
Round 13 – 1 SC into the next 5 stitches, SC DEC, repeat around (36ST)
Round 14 – 1 SC into the next 4 stitches, SC DEC, repeat around (30ST)
Round 15 – Working into the BL (for this round only), 1 SC into every stitch around (30ST)
Round 16 – Round 19 (4 rounds in total) – 1 SC into every stitch around (30ST)
Round 20 (add ears as you go) – 1 SC into the next 3 stitches, SC DEC, repeat around (24ST)
EARS – Once in position for the first ear – Into the same stitch, work [SL ST, CH 3, 4 TR, CH 3, SL ST], repeat for second ear (about 6 stitches a part). Continue with round 20
EMBROIDER EYES & NOSTRILS – EYES between rounds 16 & 18, approx. 5 stitches a part, NOSTRILS between rounds 6 & 10, approx. 7 stitches a part
Round 21 – 1 SC into the next 2 stitches, SC DEC, repeat around (18ST), pause here and add the hobby fill
Round 22 – 1 SC into the next stitch, SC DEC, repeat around (12ST)
Round 23 – SC DEC into every stitch around (6ST)
FO – Close Head and leave a tail of yarn for attaching to the blanket
To Finish Off
Attach Hippo Head to the centre of the blanket, attach the arms to the hippo head and attach flower near the hippo’s ear.
FO – Weave in all the ends and Trim.
